BIRDS OF BIG SWAMP

A beautiful array of native water and bush birds rely on the Big Swamp habitat as their home, their refuge, and their feeding and nesting grounds.

Using the paths, boardwalks and bird hides, visitors are able to enjoy observing birds in their habitat.

Below you will find some notes and links that may help you to identify and learn about some of the species at Big Swamp.

Please remember to be mindful of your activities and the impact of your presence in the environment.  As a guide, the Birdwatcher’s Code of Ethics is provided below.

The Friends of Big Swamp have been recording birds at Bog Swamp since 1995.  It is expected that ongoing bird observation will help in making management decisions for the future of the habitat. Results of monthly surveys from 2010 on are available on the Birdlife Australia website (birdlife.org.au). The table below shows the species observed at Big Swamp at various times.

We have assembled some information and images of many of the bird species found at Big Swamp. Our thanks go to all contributors for their compilation of information and images.
