A beautiful array of native water and bush birds rely on the Big Swamp habitat as their home, their refuge, and their feeding and nesting grounds.Using the paths, boardwalks and bird hides, visitors are able to enjoy observing birds in their habitat.

It is expected that ongoing bird observation will help in making management decisions for the future of the habitat. Results of monthly surveys from 2010 on are available on the Birdlife Australia website (birdlife.org.au). The table below shows the species observed at Big Swamp at various times.
